What caused pink water in Canada?

Potassium Permanganate – A chemical used to treat the municipal water in Onoway Canada. Its purpose is to remove iron and manganese from the water.

What happened?

Some of the Potassium Permanganate  escape the treatmnent plant and made it into the distribution lines. The way that their municipal water system is set up, in a loop, it is difficult for them to isolate the problem. This is why it had to be flushed out through the homes of Onoway.

It is supposed to be cleared in a few days. Below is a picture showing just how serious the issue was.
